Psychosis |
|
If I were asked to define
psychosis, I would say a state of mind that is dangerously
altered to the point of loss of touch with reality. In
addition to this loss of perception, visual and audio
hallucinations, grandiosity (feeling of extremely inflated
sense of importance), delusions and delusional behavior.
Additionally, the individual experiencing psychosis isn't
accurately perceiving external stimuli, and even though
faced with evidence of the contrary, continues to do so. A
lot of people speak in religious tones and references when
experiencing a psychotic break. Psychosis is the defining
feature of
Bipolar I, and the
mania that accompanies. In
contrast, those with a Bipolar I diagnosis also experience
the extremes of a Major
Depressive episode. Bipolar I depicts, the most severe
and extreme of the mood disorders and is something to take
very seriously due to the dangerous nature of the features.
Medication is almost ALWAYS included in the treatment plan.
Other diagnoses with psychosis as a feature include the Mood
Disorders, Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder, some
organic mental disorders, and even substance-induced
disorders. |

“Exercise is one of the most
powerful antidepressants you can find. And the anecdotal evidence
is all around you. It raises the levels of endorphins,
chemicals
in the body that shape our moods, making us feel happy, relaxed,
and energetic. Holistic doctors also believe that exercise helps
release toxins from the body and relieves anxiety.”
