So, do you think you are an alcoholic?

First let me state a few facts:

To the binge drinker (defined as drinking five or more drinks in a row), you know, the one that probably drinks periodically (unless he is really severe) but once he starts he cannot stop, yes, you are an alcoholic.

To the periodic drinker, you know, the one that only drinks once or twice a year but cannot stop and gets very out of control and gets a DUI, yes, you are an alcoholic.

To any drinker that has enough to drink to where the OUTCOME is not controlled, chances are great that you are an alcoholic. Remember. Alcoholism is a progressive disease, meaning, the more you drink, the worse it gets. So, you may get away with it once, but if it happens again, you are an alcoholic.

So, please take the test below and find out for yourself. If you have further questions please feel free to contact me or one of the other alcohol related links on my site. Thank you.

1 - Have you ever decided to stop drinking for a week or so, but this only lasted for a couple of days?

2 - Do you wish people would mind their own business about your drinking-- stop telling you what to do?

3 - Have you ever switched from one kind of drink to another in the hope that this would keep you from getting drunk?

4 - Have you had to have an eye-opener upon awakening during the past year?

5 - Do you envy people who can drink without getting into trouble?

6 - Have you had problems connected with drinking during the past year?

7 - Has your drinking caused trouble at home?

8 - Do you ever try to get "extra" drinks at a party because you do not get enough?

9 - Do you tell yourself you can stop drinking any time you want to, even though you keep getting drunk when you don't mean to?

10 - Have you missed days of work or school because of drinking?

11 - Do you have "blackouts"?

12 - Have you ever felt that your life would be better if you did not drink?

If you answered four or more chances are you are addicted. Seek help now. Find an AA Chapter near you or call a professional that specializes in addiction, especially if you have bipolar also.

If you are scared, I know you are scared! When I realized I was out of control with alcohol, and that is really all you have to ask yourself, "Are you out of control with alcohol?", I had a third suicide plan due to my depression. Talk about scared. My survival instinct kicked in and I checked myself into a hospital because I also had several other drugs in my system at the time and I needed medical help.

Anyway, don't be scared. Come to my chats. Go to AA. Find a support system, that is so important. Break through the denial. If you have something at risk due to your alcohol then you definitely need to get help. You can always email me.  I encourage you to join our Message Forum. It is free and very confidential. I am here for you. I have been sober almost two years and it is way better than any of the times that I spent drinking. Life is wonderful now. Find the Light that I have which is alcohol-free...

The hardest thing to admit is that you are an alcoholic. I know! Don't let denial ruin your life. It will. It will kill you...
